Senior Electrical Engineer
Position Overview
A growing provider of engineered water and wastewater treatment solutions is seeking a Senior Electrical Engineer to support the design, programming, integration, and commissioning of electrical, instrumentation, and control systems.
This position works across new equipment, rental systems, service projects, and existing assets. The Senior Electrical Engineer will combine hands-on controls engineering with project execution, customer interaction, and technical leadership. Key responsibilities include PLC/HMI programming, electrical design, control panel development, troubleshooting, estimating, and field startup support.
Key Responsibilities
- Design and review electrical, instrumentation, and control systems based on customer specifications and project requirements.
- Perform PLC programming, hardware selection, HMI development, wiring design, and control cabinet design.
- Select and specify electrical hardware and software for engineered treatment systems.
- Develop detailed electrical plans and support integration of controls with mechanical and process equipment.
- Review customer requirements and recommend practical technical solutions.
- Communicate with customers regarding system designs, modifications, technical requirements, and project expectations.
- Prepare and present technical proposals, reports, recommendations, and project findings.
- Collaborate with engineering, production, sales, and other internal teams to ensure projects meet technical and customer requirements.
- Develop sales estimates and provide technical input for new equipment, rental, service, and other project opportunities.
- Prepare project budgets, cost estimates, bids, and contract-related technical information.
- Provide technical support for customer questions involving electrical controls and instrumentation.
- Create electrical CAD drawings, including wiring diagrams and control cabinet layouts, or provide detailed direction to CAD resources.
- Support equipment installation, commissioning, startup, troubleshooting, and customer training in the field.
- Assist with the training and development of junior engineering/design personnel and help coordinate engineering workloads and assignments.
- Support purchasing and project administration, including material and service requirements.
Qualifications
- Bachelor’s degree in Electrical Engineering preferred, or a combination of relevant technical education, training, and experience.
- Training or experience in automation systems, mechatronics, electrical technology, or industrial controls.
- Experience within a process-oriented industrial environment preferred.
- Water and wastewater industry experience is highly desirable.
- Strong understanding of electrical engineering principles, controls, instrumentation, and automation.
- Ability to read, develop, and interpret technical drawings, schematics, plans, and specifications.
- Strong troubleshooting and problem-solving abilities.
- Comfortable working collaboratively across engineering, production, commercial, and customer-facing teams.
- Strong written and verbal communication skills.
- Ability to interact professionally with customers and translate technical requirements into practical solutions.
Technical Skills
Candidates should have experience with some combination of:
- PLC programming and industrial automation
- Allen-Bradley/Rockwell control platforms
- HMI and visualization systems
- Distributed control systems (DCS)
- Siemens or comparable industrial control platforms
- Industrial communication protocols including EtherNet/IP, Profibus, Profinet, Modbus, HART, and IO-Link
- AutoCAD or comparable CAD/design software
- Electrical control panel and cabinet design
- Instrumentation and electrical troubleshooting
- Microsoft Office and project-management software
Travel
Approximately 30–35% travel is expected. Travel may include overnight domestic trips and occasional international travel for equipment startup, commissioning, troubleshooting, training, and customer support.
Compensation
Expected base salary: $100,000–$145,000, depending on experience, plus eligibility for an approximately 10% performance bonus.
