Job Summary

The Field Service Engineer plays a critical customer-facing role, ensuring the proper installation, startup, and ongoing performance of advanced mechanical and electromechanical systems. This senior-level technical position involves supervising mechanical installations, performing complex diagnostics, leading system commissioning, and troubleshooting in diverse industrial and municipal environments.

This role requires extensive travel (approximately 85%) to customer sites across the U.S., including occasional weekends. All field travel is compensated, including per diem, mileage, and other eligible expenses, in accordance with company policy. Additional travel pay may be provided for extended assignments.

Key Responsibilities

  • Serve as the lead technical expert on-site during equipment installation, startup, commissioning, and troubleshooting activities.
  • Perform advanced diagnostics and service functions involving mechanical, electrical, and control systems.
  • Train plant personnel on system operation, safety protocols, and preventative maintenance procedures.
  • Conduct root cause analyses and create comprehensive service reports for both internal and external audiences.
  • Maintain detailed documentation of site activities, observations, and technical recommendations; submit accurate service and expense reports.
  • Collaborate with internal engineering and controls teams to refine system performance and troubleshoot complex project challenges.
  • Support post-installation service efforts, including warranty and non-warranty visits.
  • Perform field readiness checks and job site evaluations prior to project turnover.
  • Communicate actively with customers and internal stakeholders regarding schedules, field service status, and potential issues.
  • Represent the company with professionalism, expertise, and a strong customer-service mindset during all site visits.

Qualifications & Skills

  • 3+ years of experience in field service or industrial construction, with hands-on involvement in diagnostics, startup, and commissioning
  • Proficiency in troubleshooting electrical systems and control panels (PLCs, VFDs, motor starters, relay logic)
  • Familiarity with SCADA systems and industrial programming a strong plus
  • Proven ability to work independently in high-pressure field environments
  • Excellent verbal and written communication skills
  • Valid driver's license
  • Willingness and ability to travel up to 85% of the time, including occasional weekends

Education

  • Associate’s degree in Electrical Engineering, Mechanical Technology, Industrial Automation, or a closely related technical field
  • Equivalent military or technical experience will also be considered
