Technical Support Engineer

Position Overview

A growing provider of engineered environmental and infrastructure systems is seeking a Technical Support Engineer to strengthen its Americas service organization. This newly created position is intended for an experienced technical professional who wants to do more than respond to service requests. The individual will have meaningful responsibility for how complex technical issues are resolved, how equipment performance is improved, and how technical knowledge is captured and shared across the organization.

The position will serve as a senior technical resource for customers, field personnel, channel partners, and internal teams. It combines advanced troubleshooting with process development and hands-on technical involvement, creating an opportunity to influence both immediate customer outcomes and the longer-term effectiveness of the service organization.

Professional Responsibility and Scope

This individual will take ownership of difficult technical issues involving electrical systems, industrial controls, instrumentation, mechanical components, and overall system performance. Responsibilities will span remote diagnostics, field support, commissioning assistance, equipment testing, root cause investigation, and coordination with engineering and operations when broader technical issues are identified.

An important part of the position is converting individual service experiences into organizational improvements. The engineer will identify recurring technical issues, investigate underlying causes, improve troubleshooting practices, and develop documentation and technical resources that enable faster and more consistent resolution. The position will also collaborate across engineering, manufacturing, quality, operations, and service functions to improve equipment reliability and serviceability.

Location and Lifestyle Context

The position is office-based in Charlotte, NC, with approximately 5 to 10 percent travel expected. Most work occurs during normal business hours, although occasional weekend or holiday availability may be necessary when significant customer or field issues arise.

Long Term Professional Growth

Because this is a newly created position, the successful candidate will have an unusual opportunity to influence how the technical service function develops. Rather than inheriting a completely established system of procedures and resources, this individual will help develop troubleshooting methods, technical documentation, knowledge resources, service standards, and repeatable practices that can support continued expansion.

The role offers visibility across multiple functions and the opportunity to become a trusted technical authority within the Americas organization. A professional who demonstrates strong technical judgment and organizational impact can build expertise extending beyond individual troubleshooting assignments into service strategy, equipment reliability, technical development, and broader operational improvement.

Compensation

Base compensation is expected to be up to $100,000, depending on experience, technical depth, and overall qualifications. The opportunity is particularly well suited to a technical professional seeking broader organizational influence and ownership while remaining closely connected to engineering and hands-on problem-solving.

Team Environment and Leadership Approach

The successful candidate will work within a collaborative service environment that values technical curiosity, sound judgment, accountability, and practical problem-solving. The position currently has no direct reports and instead derives its influence from technical expertise, credibility, and the ability to help colleagues resolve difficult problems.

Leadership is seeking someone comfortable working independently without becoming isolated from the broader team. The engineer should be willing to question inefficient practices, recommend improvements, communicate technical concepts clearly, and work constructively with both technical and nontechnical stakeholders.

Organizational Stability and Industry Position

The employer operates within the environmental and infrastructure market, supporting engineered systems used in water, industrial, and other process applications. Its equipment serves applications where dependable performance, regulatory considerations, and operational continuity are important customer priorities.

Continued development of the Americas service organization has created the need for deeper technical capability and more scalable support practices. This position is therefore intended to strengthen both current customer support and the technical foundation required for future business expansion.

Experience and Qualification Summary

Strong candidates will typically bring at least five years of experience involving technical support, field service, commissioning, applications engineering, industrial automation, controls, or engineered equipment. A bachelor's degree in electrical engineering, mechanical engineering, engineering technology, automation technology, or a related discipline is preferred.

The position requires strong electrical troubleshooting capability and practical familiarity with industrial controls, automation, instrumentation, sensors, variable frequency drives, human-machine interfaces, programmable control systems, and control panels. Candidates should be comfortable interpreting electrical schematics, wiring diagrams, process and instrumentation drawings, control logic, and other technical documentation.

Experience supporting water infrastructure, industrial process systems, environmental equipment, or comparable engineered systems is valuable. Equally important are disciplined root cause analysis, clear written and verbal communication, strong documentation practices, and the ability to explain complex technical concepts to audiences with different levels of technical expertise.
