Site Work Estimator
The Opportunity
This role is built for a civil estimating professional who understands the complexity of site development inside water and wastewater treatment plant construction. The work is full time estimating with no hybrid component. You will support design build projects where earthwork accuracy, subsurface understanding, and structural excavation expertise directly influence cost control and project success.
You will join a team that values precision, disciplined problem solving, and collaboration with operations. Your work will have a direct impact on securing new projects and ensuring that each bid reflects the realities of the field.
What You Will Do
Pre Bid Responsibilities
• Review drawings, specifications, addenda, and geotechnical reports with complete ownership of site work scope.
• Attend pre bid meetings and site visits to validate site conditions, access, utilities, existing structures, and constraints.
• Perform detailed earthwork takeoffs using AGTEK including cut and fill, trenching, structural excavation, and backfill.
• Estimate shoring and sheeting requirements based on soil conditions and geotechnical findings.
• Prepare quantity surveys for earthwork, utilities, excavation support, erosion control, dewatering, and related civil scopes.
• Develop cost forecasts for labor, materials, equipment, trucking, and subcontracted services.
• Solicit, evaluate, and level subcontractor and vendor pricing for site work and civil packages.
• Coordinate clarifications with the estimating lead and participate in internal plan reviews and bid strategy meetings.
Bid Process Responsibilities
• Build and maintain accurate comparison spreadsheets for subcontractor pricing and self perform options.
• Support the creation of final bid submissions with accurate quantities, production rates, and costs.
• Contribute to bid day preparations with disciplined attention to detail and ownership of assigned scopes.
Post Bid Responsibilities
• Transfer estimate data to the project team at hand off meetings with clear assumptions and risk items.
• Support early project planning, value engineering discussions, and major change order development.
• Visit active projects to compare estimated production rates with field performance and refine future bids.
• Participate in weekly estimating and operations meetings to share insights and strengthen internal processes.
Required Skills and Experience
• Strong technical foundation in civil construction with direct experience estimating site work.
• Proficiency in AGTEK for earthwork takeoffs.
• Proven ability to read and interpret geotechnical reports.
• Skilled in structural excavation estimating and backfill sequencing.
• Familiarity with shoring and sheeting systems such as soldier piles, trench boxes, slide rail, or engineered systems.
• Strong communication skills and the ability to collaborate with project managers, superintendents, and subcontractors.
• Proficiency in Microsoft Office.
• Ability to manage multiple estimates and deadlines simultaneously.
• Legally eligible to work in the United States and able to pass all required screenings.
Desired Background
• Two or more years of estimating or field engineering experience in civil, utility, or treatment plant construction.
• Bachelor’s degree in civil engineering, construction management, or a related field.
• Experience with design build delivery.
• Familiarity with ProContractor by Viewpoint, AutoCAD, or Primavera is helpful but not required.
• Understanding of labor productivity, equipment utilization, and production rate forecasting.
