Job Description:

Our client is seeking a strategic and hands-on Director of Engineering to lead the development and execution of innovative wastewater treatment solutions. This role offers the opportunity to drive impactful engineering initiatives while fostering a collaborative, values-driven team culture in the Houston, TX office. Experience within the Water & Wastewater industry is preferred, and/or with complex thermal process equipment, with a concentration in equipment design for manufacture. Performs a variety of tasks.


Reports to: VP of Engineering


Essential Functions:

  • Lead, mentor, and manage the engineering team across disciplines, including process, mechanical, civil, and electrical engineering
  • Oversee the design, development, and implementation of our client’s wastewater treatment technologies in partnership with operations and business development teams
  • Provide technical oversight and guidance on all engineering projects, ensuring quality, safety, efficiency, and regulatory compliance
  • Collaborate with cross-functional stakeholders on project planning, budgeting, and resourcing
  • Identify and implement process improvements to enhance product performance, cost-effectiveness, and sustainability
  • Engage directly with clients, contractors, and regulatory agencies to support project execution and technical problem-solving
  • Cultivate a culture of innovation, transparency, accountability, and collaboration within the engineering team and across the company


Knowledge, Skills, and Abilities Required:

  • Bachelor’s or Master’s degree in Environmental, Civil, Mechanical, or Chemical Engineering; PE license strongly preferred
  • 10+ years of progressive engineering experience in wastewater treatment or a related field
  • 5+ years of experience leading engineering teams or managing multi-disciplinary projects
  • Strong knowledge of equipment manufacturing processes, design for manufacture
  • Proven ability to communicate technical concepts to both technical and non-technical stakeholders
  • Demonstrated commitment to fostering a positive workplace culture through servant leadership
  • Willingness to travel occasionally for project support and client engagement
  • Travel up to 20%, reimbursed by the company
  • Understanding of thermodynamics and heat exchangers
  • Practical knowledge of rotating equipment; knowledge of process control equipment, instrumentation, and analyzers
  • Proficient in developing new calculators/application tools in Excel
  • Excellent organization, presentation, and verbal communication skills
  • Good analytical abilities, critical thinking skills, and tenacious follow-up
  • Scheduling, priority management, and meeting deadlines
  • Possess a valid driver’s license


Working Conditions:

  • Workdays are usually Monday to Friday, 8 hours per day, minimum 40 hours per week
